Most people measure others by the way they walk, talk and carry themselves. A person’s posture will tell others volumes about himself, including his overall state of health.
On your side, your posture can influence on how you feel. Most often, even without words, posture can make you conscious of other people, your being in a crowded place or even being alone. It also speaks volumes about you.
Posture portrait
If you come out strutting with your chest up front, you may appear confident. If you loosen your shoulders and look down, you would look discouraged. Sad, maybe, not confident at all.
Experts had discovered that correcting your posture will change your disposition. If you look like you’ve just won something and you are smiling as your shoulders are confidently pulled back, you will surely feel that winning spirit.
Benefits
It’s been scientifically proven that good posture affects your physical body as well as your emotional and mental state of being. Good posture definitely has plenty of benefits to bring in.
For one, good posture reduces the physical stress on your body. If you’re suffering from a headache, or back pains maybe, a straight upright position can lessen the pain. It can even disappear, especially if the pain was caused by an improper way of sitting or placing yourself on a chair.
Good posture can also influence your oxygen intake. Your lungs may be working overtime and not to their full capacity if you are hunched. If you can stand straight, you will allow more room into your chest for better breathing.
In turn, it can give you more energy and you’ll feel better. Sometimes, your current state of mind and disposition might just be a matter of posture which you can instantly correct should you notice you are sitting or standing crookedly.
Improving the posture
One of the first things to do when trying to check if you are having bad posture is to look at your feet. The aim is to spread your weight evenly on your feet that should be around three to five inches apart.
Have your feet in parallel position. Notice what come next when you lock your knees. They can overextend and have your abdomen protrude ahead. This posture is wrong. You should have your knees straight but not in a locked position.
Some posture pointers
When you sit for long stretches doing something, you may forget your posture and you may develop some neck pains, headache or some back aches. Don’t forget to correct these immediately.
When sitting in front of your computer screen, ensure you are at eye level. The screen’s position is critical to the health of your eyes as well as the state of your posture as you do your work in the computer.
In a car, make sure your feet are up to the pedals and you are in upright position. Wrong lifting techniques are dangerous. Bend your knees and lift using the strength of your knees and not anything else. Good posture is important. Always be aware of it. Or, at least do some periodic checking.
